Amazons system is set up to always, automatically use your gift card balance first, before any other payment method on your account. You do need a CC, or billing address, on your account to verify the region license. If you are sure your gift card is on the Amazon account you are trying to purchase from check with the Gift Cards link on any Amazon page , and the charge is still going to your credit card, you need to contact customer service to find out what is going on with your account. Amazon forced me to use 1-click to download a rented e-book, but credit cards are a far safer method of payment especially when purchasing a rental and in digital form to boot. However, the 1-click setting forces through gift card payment before charging your credit card, and in Manage 1-Click Settings it does not offer a setting to exclude gift card balance from payment. Seems like a ridiculous policy that in no way benefits the customer and only serves to benefitting Amazons accountants so that they can more efficiently balance their income statement i. Please fix! I use my gift card balance for fun things like video games, not overpriced school supplies! Proceed to check out. Near the top of the page you can change payment which will include an option to not use the gift card. ETA Whoops! Didnt think that through clearly. As a workaround, you can always use your credit card to replenish your gift card balance. That way its already paid for and I dont have to pay a bill later. I have a second linked account that I place gift cards on, so my main account always uses a credit card. Usually the only Amazon presence here is in the form of forum moderators and they would likely tell you to contact Customer Service and ask them why Amazon set it up that way.
