Leicestershire County Council is hoping to sell the land under the former museum and car park in Coalville for new homes, once it has planning permission. However, one hurdle which is very unlikely to halt the housing development is that the site has been registered by North West Leicestershire District Council as an Asset of Community . The legislation is meant to protect it on behalf of the local population. If a community group, charity, non-profit company or town council or parish council decides it is up to the challenge of raising a million, the sale will be postponed for six months to allow them to raise the money.
